Food
February 2, 2004 - 12amI’m pleased to announce that Operation Deplete Foodstores is well under way.
Whenever I go to my parents’ house, my mom always loads me up with various cans and box mixes that I have no intention of ever eating. They sit in my cupboard taking up space for years.
Every so often I won’t go grocery shopping for a long period. I think the last time I actually purchased a decent quantity of food was in mid-December. This is for a combination of reasons: poverty and laziness. During this period, I do my best to slowly work my way through the things my mom gave me.
Also, I don’t like grocery shopping. Somehow I always feel ill-prepared to be there… for some reason, I feel like I should show up with a list and a plan. I watch the soccer moms effortlessly float through, grab exactly what they need, and disappear into the aisles. All this happens in the space of time it takes me to decide whether or not I should purchase a tangerine.
Anyway, today I made an angel food cake, chocolate pudding, and two meals. All from box mixes.
I’m making good progress. It won’t be long now, and I’ll be down to nothing but the basic ingredients of food. Then, and only then, will I break down and go grocery shopping.
Perhaps I’ll make a list.
Commenting validates my miserable existence.
